Which Wetsuits Have the Best Warranties?

Depending on where you live, it can be argued that your wetsuit is just important as your surfboard when it comes to catching a sustained amount of waves. While Surfcare doesn’t offer protection plans or insurance on wetsuits today, we wanted to cover the major manufacturers warranty policies to help you in making your next wetsuit purchase decision or figure what to do when you run into a defect with your existing wetsuit. While wetsuits encounter a lot less accidental damage outside of normal wear-and-tear as compared to surfboards, it still happens from time-to-time. With wetsuits becoming more tech and supplying a larger mix of back-zip, chest-zip and pull-over (zip-free) in addition to furnishing a plethora of zippers, drawstrings and clasps, there are bound to be some malfunctions. For the most part, wetsuit manufacturers are good about backing their product and getting them repaired quickly when and if you have a problem.

Common wetsuit malfunctions that deserve a warranty claim submission are:

  1. Jammed or broken zippers
  2. Broken or partially missing clasps
  3. Separated glued or welded seams
  4. Torn or unraveled stitching

                                    Patagonia Wetsuits Warranty

                                    Duration: Lifetime

Limited Warranty: Damage done related to materials and workmanship not related to wear and tear.

                                    ABOUT OUR WARRANTY

We stand behind everything we make, including our wetsuits. But wetsuits require care if they are going to perform and wear the way they were intended. Patagonia is not responsible for wetsuits that are abused or show normal wear and tear over time. Scratches and fading are inevitable, as are tears from the occasional close call with a fin.

                                    Wetsuit Care Guidelines

                                    • Rinse your wetsuit with fresh water after every use.

                                    • After rinsing, fold in half at waist and hang dry.

                                    • Do not store it wet, or in direct sunlight.

                                    • Suit up carefully. We’ve selected high-stretch materials for their comfort and function. Avoid overstretching fabric and seams. Do not step on one leg to pull the other leg out.

                                    • If possible, change in a plastic tub or on a mat.

                                    THINGS THAT VOID OUR WARRANTY

                                    • Repairs made by an unauthorized repair shop if they damage the suit.

                                    • Wetsuit classified as “used” or “second” (sold with defects).

                                    • Wetsuits used in commercial operations, wetsuit rental, teaching or instructional programs or activities.

                                    • Fit issues that arise after the wetsuit has been used. Fit issues should be resolved before the wetsuit hits the water.

Our wetsuit warranty does not cover upgrading your older Patagonia wetsuit to a current model. We are continuously improving our designs and materials, but that doesn’t make your existing wetsuit unsatisfactory. It just means that the next one you buy will be even better than the last.

Most of the manufacturers will repair their own wetsuits for a cost even if not covered by the warranty and sometimes they will even be willing to repair brands outside of their own, so it’s worth asking.
